Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz - was born at Winona Minnesota. The parents of Winona Ryder chose her name after her hometown. Michel Horowitz is her father as well as Cynthia Palmer is her mother. Ryder believes she is Jewish has a connection to Ryder's Jewish father. Uria is Ryder's younger brother. Jubal, Sunyata and Sunyata are her half-siblings. Ryder's family relocated to Mendocino County, California, when she was just 7 years old. They didn't have electricity. Ryder would read extensively because of the lack of television. Ryder, then 12, enrolled at the American Conservatory Theatre for acting classes in 1983. In 1986 she was offered her first big-screen role in the film Lucas when she was just fifteen years old. Ryder was bullied in high school. Ryder was hopeful that her work as an actress could help. Unfortunately that didn't come to be. The actress continued to chase her dreams. In 1988, in the year Tim Burton released Beetlejuice that she got her big break. Ryder continued to play successful roles in several movies. In 1993, Ryder was nominated two times for Academy Awards.
